Happy 25th to the VMA's

So last night's VMA's were, in my opinion, really something to be excited for. Everyone looked gorgeous, the jokes were crude and histarical from host Russel Brand (who I just think is ridiculously funny no matter what he's doing), and Britney took home three moonmen!

I have been a fan of Britney Spears's since I was about 8 years old. I was one of the few people who really felt for her when she was going down her spiral of turmoil, and now I am proud to be one of the many who are happy to see her back! Britney started off the night with a silly skit with Jonah Hill and when it came time for her to open the show by wishing happy birthday to the VMA's, she looked amazing. Wearing a vintage Versage dress, later switching to a similar but different style one, Britney won her first ever Video Music Award for Best Female Video after being nominated for SIXTEEN awards in the past. Wow! Not to mention she won Best Pop Video and ended the evening by winning the night's most coveted award - Video of the Year. I love seeing stars make strong comebacks in their career and this girl truly deserves it. Go Britney!

One star who's dressing that I'm sad to say I wasn't too fond of was Christina Aguilera. I love Christina! She's one of my favorites! But I prefered her so much more in her glam-marilyn stage than whatever the goth one is that she's in now. Motherhood is supposed to make you glowing not pale. It seems as if she's resorting back to the style of her "Fighter" video. I love the girl, but this one was not my fav.

Jordin Sparks and Russel Brand had a little tension between them when Brand made some jokes about the Jonas Brothers and their choice to remain virgins until marriage with their promise rings. Sparks has long spoke publicly about holding onto her virginity, and when it came time for her to introduce T.I.'s performance, she couldn't help but speak out again. "I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It is not bad to wear a promise ring, because not everyone - guy or girl - wants to be a slut." Ouch. So of course once Brand got back on stage he "attempted" to apologize by saying, "I didn't mean to take it lightly. I don't want to piss off teenage fans," and continued "Promise rings, well I'm up for it. [But] a bit of sex, it never hurt anybody." Later in the show Brand mentioned the strife again when he and LLCoolJ were making jokes to one another about some lingerie-wearing backstage. Brand continued the joke by adding that LLCoolJ dressed him in lingerie, then said "but I won't continue with that because I've already been called a slut." Good for you Russel! While Brand is known for being a famous "lothario" in his native England, I can't help but agree with him. Sorry Jordin, but he's hosting the show - he's SUPPOSED to make jokes. Paris Hilton didn't get up on stage and speak out for all criminals when she was teased in previous years for her jail stint. This sorts of things are MEANT to be taken lightly. Besides, he wasn't aiming at YOU! Although the Jonas Brothers did look a big apathetic for the 2 seconds that the camera was put on them to see their look of response, I kind of doubt that they sat there the entire show without laughing at all at Brand's jokes. These guys are a huge (by some standards) upcoming band so of course he's gonna target them, that's just what hosts do to those who are becoming famous at the time. I'm all for abstinence and beliefs too, don't get me wrong, but to me it kind of makes Sparks look a tad bit critical to speak out on stage against Brand when his joke did not specifically involve her in the first place. I'm sure she wasn't the only one in the audience who agreed with the Jonas Brothers' beliefs, she just was the only one who publicly couldn't take the joke. Sheesh!

Another star who I feel like I just have to comment on is miss Katy Perry. You know, when her song "I Kissed a Girl" first came out and people went wild over it, I kind of was a little turned off by her just because I tend to dislike really popular songs that every single person goes crazy over. However, I've seen some interviews with her recently and they kind of made me like her more and after the VMA's I have to say, she is really not too bad of a celebrity. She seems unique, honest, and funny. Plus, she carried on the Jonas joke a bit by changing the words when she sang "Like a Virgin" by saying "Like a Jonas, with your promise ring next to mine." You know, her songs may just be a trend but I think her fun personality will keep her around for a while. Plus I like the banana on her performance outfit, it actually peels!

P.S.
I'm sorry to all the generations below me - but I have to say I was VERY pleased that Miley Cirus didn't win a single award. I was afraid that she was going to win over Britney in some of them, but nope! Just goes to show you the who's territory MTV is. Hannah Montana should stick to Disney and stray away from MTV for another decade.
